Ludhiana: Cracking down on the drug peddlers, the Anti-Narcotics and Anti-Liquor Cell of Police Commissionerate, Ludhiana has arrested 1118 drug peddlers in 883 cases in last three years. The wing has also recovered record quantity of drugs and fine which is highest in the state. The idea to constitute wing was to keep the tab on activities of drug peddlers and arrest them.
The idea seems to have remained successful and the wing has registered around 1,000 cases and arrested 1164 drug peddlers. The official data of the police revealed that from 2014 to till date 883 cases have been registered and 1118 arrests have been made. In the cases related to Excise Act, the police have recovered 89319 bottles of IMFL and country-made liquor.
Moreover, 110 kilogram opium, 20 quintal 80 kilogram poppy husk, 3 Kilogram charas, 12 Kilogram heroine, ice and other party drugs have been recovered in last three years. The wing has also recovered banned medicines in huge quantity. According to the data, 1 crore 60 lakh capsules and injections were recovered by the wing. The wing has also proved beneficial for the government treasury as sum of Rs 59 lakh and 52 thousand was collected as fine and deposited in the government treasury. Incharge of Anti Narcotics Cell Harbans Singh said that they have also arrested 22 proclaimed offenders (POs) and also registered other cases than drug peddling and under Excise Act.
