Appointment of Guriqbal as DSP: HC issues notice to Pb govt
Chandigarh(DP Correspondent) – The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the state of Punjab, Punjab Police Service Commission and Guriqbal Singh, grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh for December 5 and sought reply. The appointment of Guriqbal Singh has been challenged by Parveen Kumar of Tarn Taran through advocate R S Bains. Guriqbal was appointed.The notice was issued by Bench of Justice R K Jain while hearing the petition filed by Parveen Kumar through his counsel R S Bains. It has been prayed in the petition that appointment of Guriqbal Singh as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DSP) be set aside as he has been appointed as DSP through direct recruitment on compassionate ground in violation of Punjab Police Service Rules, 1959.Moreover, it has been stated in the petition that Guriqbal Singh has crossed the age limit and also his family is not in need of compassionate appointment as family’s financial and political status is very high. The petitioner has also prayed that during the pendency of present petition the appointment of Guriqbal Singh may kindly be stayed.According to the petitioner the appointment has been made nearly after 22 years of former chief minister death. Moreover the family of Guriqbal is very strong so far the economic condition is concerned. Guriqbal Singh is the son of Tej Parkash Singh, younger brother of Ludhiana Lok Sabha member Ravneet Bittu and a cousin of Khanna MLA Gurkirat Kotli.
