Around 150 colleges of state move court for filling vacant seats. Around 150 B Ed colleges of Punjab have moved court as thousands of seats in these colleges remained vacant after counseling. The colleges want that they should be allowed to admit those students who have not cleared test on vacant seats. Although the figure of seats which got filled is quite better as compared to previous year but if colleges do not get permission to fill these seats then at least 8,766 seats will remain vacant which will be a huge loss to these colleges. Last year also mostly seats in these colleges remained vacant as course duration was increased from one to two years. As per information, these colleges had 23,790 seats in total but out of these only 15,024 seats got filled. The more surprising thing is that till now out of these filled seats around 2,621 seats are of management quota. Panjab University has been chosen as the university for doing admission process of session 2017-18 in all these colleges for whole Punjab. As per information, there are around 215 B Ed colleges in Punjab and out of these 102 B Ed colleges are under Punjabi University Patiala, 62 colleges are under Panjab University, Chandigarh and 51 B Ed colleges are under GNDU, Amritsar.
