Sangrur: An assistant sub inspector (ASI) of Punjab police caught red handed by vigilance bureau while accepting the bribe of Rs 5000, on Friday at Sangrur. The accused has been identified as Sukhchain Singh posted as police post in-charge at Sangrur.
Complainant, Lakhmir Singh stated that the accused cop demanded bribe on the pretext of implicating him in false case of illegal sand mining. He added that earlier the cop demanded Rs 5000 bribe that was given to him, but the cop again raised similar demand. Singh said that his neighbor had lodged a police complaint against him due to dispute and the accused ASI made the base of that complaint to put pressure on him.
DSP vigilance Pritpal Singh said that following the complaint of the victim, the vigilance bureau laid a trap and arrested the accused ASI red handed. He added that during the arrest the vigilance has recovered the bribe Rs 5000 from his possession. Meanwhile, the case has been registered against him under the relevant sections of prevention of corruption (PC) Act.
