Jalandhar: Jalandhar CIA Staff Assistant Sub Inspector made the Punjab Police proud by saving 2 lives inside Devi Talab Mandir on Saturday morning. ASI Mohan Singh is posted in the spot for duty in Kar Sewa, which is on in the temple. Singh used his turban to save a mother and her 5 year-old-child who were on the verge of being electrocuted with an electric pole . Jalandhar Police Commissioner has awarded him a Commendation 1 Certificate and cash prize for his bravery.
The Kar Sewa has been going on since Friday in the Devi Talab Temple to clean its pond. People are coming from many places to participate in the works. It was 7 am in the morning on Saturday when ASI Mohan Singh posted there heard the cries of the 5 year old child. The child cried twice but then stopped all of a sudden. His mother was stuck with the electric pole while the child was clung to her. People were watching them both but didn’t know what to do.Singh at once understood the situation. He immediately opened up his turban, made a loop out of it and put the loop around the mother and pulled her away from the pole. Both mother and child fell away. They were given first aid by medical staff and were saved. A delay of a minute would have been fatal for the two lives.
The ASI was immediately surrounded by the people there and the group accompanying the woman thanked him. They took the woman and her child for further medical attention. The duo looked fine after sometime. The news spread like wild fire in Jalandhar due to the presence of a large number of people on the spot. His photographs were forwarded in whatsapp groups and the news reached Commissioner Police. CP Arpit Shukla and ADCP Vivek Sheel Soni called him in his office and awarded him with Commendation 1 Certificate of Police and a cash prize of Rs. 2000.
“He has made us proud . We appreciated his presence of mind in such a dangerous situation where many have lost their lives. Many were present there who couldn’t think of what to do. In split seconds he understood the situation and reacted in an appreciable way and thus saved two precious lives ” Said ADCP Vivek Sheel Soni.
ASI Mohan Singh was little shy when Daily Post correspondent talked to him about the incident but then explained the situation. “When the boy stopped crying, at first I thought he had just twisted his ankle. But when I saw people watching them with horror on their face I knew what has happened. I immediately took off my turban which I know wouldn’t pass electricity and pulled them with it.” ASO Mohan Singh said.
Singh lives in Kandala Guru Village near Bhogpur and works in CIA Urban Staff at Jalandhar. On reaching home on Saturday evening, he told his mother, ” Mata ,tere puttar ne ajj do jaana bacha lyiyan (Mother ,your son saved two lives today)” “She kissed me and said Shabash Puttar ” Mohan Singh said narrating the event.
CP Arpit Shukla said that Singh was being recommended for President Medal for his bravery in the applicable category.
