Ferozepur September 18, 2017 :- The first open wildlife sanctuary of Asia, located in the residential area of Bishnoi community of Abohar sub-divisional in district Fazilka is a great example of communal harmony and love for the wild animals. There is no such example in the history that can be compared with this sanctuary .The villagers living in these villages of Sito Gunno belt are helping in maintaining mutual harmony among human and wild life. Briefing the details of the Sanctuary Ashok Kumar, Forest Area Officer, Abohar, said that this Century was in existence since 1975.He said that earlier, the British had also been prohibited hunting in this area. He told that it is Asia’s first open Wildlife sanctuary, which is spread over an area of 46513 acres of 17 villages of Bishnoi society. He said that in this area, hunting of wild life is absolutely prohibited. In this sanctuary, black buck, neel, cattle, peacock, rabbit etc. live in the open with their freedom. He said that this sanctuary is established in open and on the private land, because of this, wild animals usually revolve around the 5-7 km range outside of the central area, which sometimes become the victim of dogs. He said that the department is regularly monitoring for the protection of wild animals in this sanctuary. But often in this area, wild stray dogs enter the area and harm the wild animals. He said that in the past, the deer was attacked by wild dogs and was walking in the outskirts of the Sanctuary area. He said that on receiving the information, when on the spot, stray dogs had injured the deer. But because of the night, it could not be saved. According to Bishnoi rituals the dead deer was buried there. He said that people of area and department working together to save the wildlife of area.
