Lambi (Muktsar): After what went on at Dinanagar where Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa assaulted the party’s Seva Dal leader I S Gulati ten days back, the Congress activists on Saturday indulged in a scuffle at Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s home turf Lambi in Muktsar district, where they under the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh had assembled to lash out at the SAD government over a recently exposed recruitment scam. The Congress leaders, in the presence of Captain and others tossed each others’ turbans on the stage.
Serving each other with bruises, the party leaders fell down from the stage. Various Congressmen sustained injuries and blood stains were also visible on the clothes of even senior leaders of the party, including the Indian Youth Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring. It was in fact a tussle between the PPCC general secretary Jagpal Singh Abulkhurana and the Muktsar district Congress committee president Gurmeet Singh Khuddian that embarrassed the whole party on Saturday. Abulkhurana and Khuddian are the contenders for Lambi assembly ticket of the party.
Khuddian who was assigned the task to run the stage, invited Abulkhurana to address the gathering in the presence of Amarinder. Abulkhurana was addressing the party workers, when one of his supporters identified as Jaspal Singh Kala, standing beside him, started capturing the event over his phone. Finding him an interruption in the view, a supporter of Khuddian asked him to remove the camera and before he could do so, Khuddian supporter, identified as Gurbaz Singh Vanwala pushed him aside. The two indulged into verbal dual over the stage, which suddenly turned into a scuffle. Unmindful of the consequences, the two came to blows. The duo were shortly joined by their supporters, which finally turned out to be a free-for-all kind of scene.
MANY SUSTAINED INJURIES
Apart from Gurbaz and Jaspal many others also got their clothes torn in the fight. Jaspal sustained injury on his face and some of the assailants from both sides also got injured. Initially reluctant, cops had to swing into action to control the situation and they pushed one group out and pacified the other. While attacking each other, the two groups of the Congressmen were accusing each other of being stooge of the Akali Dal.
CAPT FEIGNS IGNORANCE
Captain Amarinder Singh, when questioned about the episode, first feigned ignorance stating that he could not notice it all. Later, on being explained by his media advisor Vimal Sumbly, former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh down played the event, saying: “It was a minor issue.” Khuddian and Aulkhurana admitted the happening but blamed each other for the unruly scene.
