Babies swapped, parents stage protest
Jalandhar(DP Correspondent) – High drama was witnessed at local Civil Hospital, after two biological parents claimed that their babies were mistakenly swapped by the hospital staff on Friday morning. Both the parents claimed that they were blessed with a baby boy and refused to accept the girl, until the police intervened to sort out the matter. As per information, Baljeet Kaur, a resident of Muthadda Khurd village gave birth to a baby boy today morning. However after two hours, the hospital staff handed her a baby girl, which she refused to accept.On the other hand, Amandeep Kaur from Nawanshahr, who gave birth to a girl refused to accept her biological daughter and claimed that she was blessed with a baby boy. In her statement, Baljeet Kaur said that after her delivery, the doctors had informed that she gave birth to a baby boy. “The doctors had also taken the imprint of my baby’s feet on a file as a proof. But, later they handed over a girl to me”, she said. The woman’s family immediately raised an alarm and protested against the hospital staff for the mistake on their part.A police party from division number 4 rushed to civil hospital and checked the feet imprint of the baby boy to confirm the claims of Baljeet Kaur. The police claimed that the babies were swapped following a mistake on the part of the hospital staff. Baljeet Kaur’s family brought the matter to the notice of Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and sought an inquiry. Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent KS Bawa constituted a two-member committee to probe the matter. “The case would be probed by Dr Sangeeta Kapoor and Dr Sanjeev Singh”, he said.
