Bathinda: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday assured the residents of Malwa to make an already constructed Bathinda Airport functional within one month. The announcement came after Union Minister for Food Processing Industries and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal made an appeal from the stage, during the ‘Vikas Parv’ rally here in Bathinda organised to mark the completion of NDA government’s two years in office. He also assured to give the final fiscal to the establishment of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Bathinda within 10 days.
Apart from the two major announcements for Bathinda, Jaitley also assured to see the possibilities of making Adampur Airport in Doaba region having domestic flights at the earliest. Meanwhile, listing major achievements of NDA government, the Union Finance Minister said that the NDA would chalk out a plan to make operational 35 airports in smaller cities of the country. He mentioned that the NDA constructed 10,000 kms highways in last two years besides devising a strategy to re-develop 400 railway stations in the country.
Taking a dig at Captain Amarinder Singh, he said that now Captain was behaving like a crying baby when his family’s foreign accounts have been unearthed. Hitting out at AAP, Jaitley said people in Delhi were “repenting” voting it to power. “Recently, elections took place for 13 municipal seats. They had got 54 per cent votes in Assembly (polls), which dropped to 29 per cent within one year,” he said. Jaitley accused the AAP of indulging in false propaganda and creating controversies in the national capital.
As the show was organised by the BJP leaders, the presence of Akali workers in the hall was negligible at Bathinda. The saffron party leaders reportedly hired over a hundred of migrant labourers. On being questioned by mediapersons, they were found not even aware of who was coming to address the gathering. Many of them said they were hired stating the Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be coming.
Having reports of some agitators trying to sneak into the hall to create disturbance in the occasion, the police remained on toes. Meanwhile, police detained some activists of Punjab State Ministerial Services Union who were marching towards the venue with black flags in hands.
