On Saturday, it was Daljit Singh whom the SSP termed prime accused. After 24 hours Daljit gets clean chit from the same cop
On Saturday, it was a .32 bore pistol pointing which the accused snatched Maruti car from a passerby. On Sunday the SSP claimed it to be a rear part of .12 bore gun that too without barrel
The SSP claims to have got the weapon verified by an onlooker but avoids confirming the same from the person on whom it was pointed at to snatch the car
The SSP claims that the assailants, who were “friends” of the constable, consumed synthetic drug with a mention that some objectionable articles were also recovered from his car but parried the query if the constable was also an addict.
Bathinda: With the arrest of one person, Bathinda police on Sunday claimed to have cracked the mystery of a case in which 30-year-old police constable was found killed near Mehma Serja village in the district on Saturday. SSP Swapan Sharma stated that the accused Jagdeep Singh of Bhokhra village along with his friend Lovepal Sharma had killed the constable Gurwinder Singh in his car. He also claimed that the police succeed in recovering the car which Jagdeep had snatched from a passerby to flee after Gurwinder’s car met with an accident after his murder. The SSP further showed the dismantled parts of a .12 bore gun claiming that it was used in the killing. Sharma claimed that police were putting efforts to nab another accused identified as Lovepal Sharma of Rampura.
Citing the reason for murder, the SSP said that Gurwinder and Jagdeep were friends but few days back while returning from Dabwali Mandi, Gurwinder and one more person had beaten up Jagdeep over a petty issue and Jagdeep was keeping grudge for that. The district top cop also claimed to have recovered two mobile phones used in the crime. Notably, the SSP’s statement was in deep contrast of his version in the case given to media on Saturday, when he had strongly named one Daljit Singh Gill of Bathinda to be the prime accused with also stating that the Constable was killed by a .32 bore gun. Going in details, he had rather informed media persons that a case against Daljit Singh Gill and one unidentified person was registered at Nehianwala police station under various sections including 302 of the IPC.
However, while taking extreme u-turn within a period of 24 hours, the SSP claimed that his previous statement was based on proper evidences. “After probing the case in detail on Saturday night, I found that Daljit Singh was not involved in the murder. So I rule out his involvement in the case,” said SSP, while addressing media persons on Sunday. On the other hand, sources in the CIA staff informed that police had not freed Daljit Singh till Sunday evening, whom they had rounded up on Saturday. In a yet another flaw in the story, Swapan Sharma on Saturday claimed that the accused Jagdeep Singh had snatched a white Maruti 800 car from one Jasvir Singh of Romana Ajit Singh village pointing a pistol at him.
However, while claiming about his achievements on Sunday, the SSP said that it was not a pistol but just a dismantled part of .12 bore gun. On being asked about the verification of the weapon, Sharma said that an onlooker Pawan alias Pamma who had come forward to help seeing Jagdeep and Lovedeep met with an accident confirmed that it was just the rear wooden part with trigger of the gun showing which he snatched the car from Jasvir. The SSP, however, failed to give a substantial reason for not it getting verified from Jasvir whose car was snatched and that too when he was available for the purpose. Asked how did a .32 bore pistol injury converted into .12 bore gun’s one, when the two weapons have altogether different potency, a fumbling SSP said: “Initially it looked like .32 bore bullet injury but later we found that it was just one splinter of .12 bore gun at pierced into his shoulder.
” While explaining the use of mobile phones, the SSP claimed that one phone used by Lovepal in the crime was in fact of one Gurmeet Kaur of Bhokhra from whom it was borrowed by one neighbor Parminder Kaur, further her nephew took the same from her and finally it reached with Lovepal for the purpose. The SSP claimed that the Constable Gurwinder Singh was driving his car Micra, when Jagdeep Singh who was on rear seat fired first. “It was actually a mistaken fire as it hit the dashboard of the car to which Gurwinder objected. Within few minutes he fired another shot and it pierced into his bicep and he started crying for medical aid. The two accused then tied a cloth on his arm and made him to sit on left seat at front.
Within minutes Jagdeep fired third shot from the same weapon that led to his killing,” claimed the SSP. “The two then dumped his body near Mehma Serja village and also threw a part of weapon used in crime, which we recovered in the wee hours on Sunday,” said Sharma but he failed to answer the media queries related to the possibility of sequence of his story and the bullet marks on body and the car. Meanwhile, he also fails to answer if the constable in question was a drug addict as the assailants, as per Swapan Sharma, had consumed the substance with also mentioning that police found some objectionable material from his car. He, however, claimed that each and every thing he revealed was factual.
