Chandigarh: A Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday recused itself from hearing an appeal filed by Shiromani Akali Dal MLA from Bholath Vidhan Sabha constituency Bibi Jagir Kaur in a criminal case. Now, the case will again go before Chief Justice S J Vazifdar to take a decision to send the case to another bench.
Bibi Jagir Kaur has filed an application praying for suspension of her conviction during the pendency of the main appeal filed by her against the Patiala court verdict. The appeal was admitted by the High Court. It is mentioned that Bibi Jagir Kaur was convicted under Section 120-B of the India Penal Court (IPC) read with Sections 313, 365 and 344 of the IPC by a special CBI court of Patiala. As a result of this, she was sentenced to undergo five years’ rigorous imprisonment. She appealed in the High Court against the judgement and the court admitted the same for regular hearing
