Jalandhar – A day after the SAD leaders blamed alliance partner BJP of defeat in the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation (MC) elections, BJP ex-MLAs advised the Akali leaders to avoid speaking against the alliance publicly. The BJP leaders said that SAD-BJP alliance was a brotherly-tie, which ruled the state for a long time. They said that it is unfortunate, if a section of the SAD leaders were airing their opinion against the alliance publicly. On Wednesday, SAD district president Kulwant Singh Mannan along with former SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur had called a party meeting at his house to analyse the reasons behind the MC polls defeat. Notably, SAD-BJP alliance won only 13 seats out of the total 80 in the Jalandhar civic body polls, which were held this Sunday. The ruling congress won 65 seats. SAD leaders including the ex-councilors and the candidates who lost the elections categorically blamed the alliance partner BJP for their defeat. Apart from blaming the ruling congress councilors, the district administration and police of high handedness, the SAD leaders said that BJP leaders role was under scanner in ensuring the defeat of SAD candidates. SAD leader and ex-Senior Deputy Mayor Kamaljit Singh Bhatia said that BJP leaders worked against his wife’s candidature while many were even hand in gloves with the congress candidate. Ranjit Singh Rana, who lost in the MC polls blamed a close supporter of ex-MLA KD Bhandari of supporting an independent against him. He also said that Bhandari was aware of this development. However, denying such allegations, senior BJP leader and former Jalandhar Central MLA Manoranjan Kalia said that it was general trend among the voters to vote in favour of the ruling government. “When SAD-BJP alliance ruled the state for 10 years, the MC was ruled by our councilors. Now, voters have voted for the congress in the MC Elections 2017, hence the voting pattern is repeated”, he said. The ex MLA said that his word of advice for the SAD leaders was that instead of accusing the BJP they should analyse the reasons behind defeat and go for course correction. Ex-Jalandhar North MLA KD Bhandari said that if this was true, how come the SAD won four seats in his constituency?“I along with the BJP workers worked overnight for the victory of the SAD leaders and the results are in front of everybody. There could be some difference of opinion but it is wrong to speak publicly against the SAD-BJP alliance”, Bhandari said, adding that the Akali leaders should raise their problems before their party president. Many SAD workers also said that the party’s missing organizational structure in the city was also a major reason behind the defeat. SAD district president Kulwant Singh Mannan was appointed a week before the MCPolls.
