Fatehgarh Sahib:Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur) president Pishora Singh Sidhupur(75) was cremated at his native Sidhupur village in district Fatehgarh Sahib on Monday. Senior politicians, farmers, area residents reached at cremation.
SGPC’s former executive member Karnail Singh Panjoli performed ardas before cremation. Anandpur Sahib MP Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra, who attended the cremation said Pishora Singh was true representative of farming community.
It is pertinent to mention that Pishora Singh died of cardiac arrest at his residence on Sunday. Pishora Singh became an active member of the farmers’ movement in 1982 and rose to the post of national vice-president of BKU led by Mahendra Singh Tikait. He was one of the leaders who had gheraoed Punjab Raj Bhawan for several days in 1984.
He parted ways with another farmer leader, Ajmer Singh Lakhowal, in 1989 and remained a leader of BKU (Ekta), which was later known by his surname. Several radical Left groups also worked under his leadership. In the 1990s, Left groups revolted against and formed their own BKUs. After several splits, he remained the head of a BKU faction.
