Khanna: Even after 48 hours of registration of an abetment to suicide case against him, former Block Congress Committee (BCC), Khanna president Ashok Tiwari has still not been arrested. Tiwari was booked in connection with suicide committed by Mandeep Singh Deepu (35), a resident of Nai Abadi here, on Friday evening. On being contacted on Sunday, the Khanna city police station SHO, Sukhraj Singh said that police parties were conducting raids at the possible hideouts for the accused. He added that the accused along with his family members was absconding and the house of the accused was lying abandoned. It may be mentioned here that the deceased was a road side vendor of eatables.
On Friday morning, a team of municipal committee, Khanna allegedly took away some articles during a drive launched to remove the illegal encroachment. Later, the deceased went to the office of municipal committee, Khanna and appealed for return of his confiscated goods but the concerned officials did not respond. In the evening, Mandeep took the extreme step and consumed some poisonous substance in the park near to the municipal committee. He was rushed to the local civil hospital where he was referred to Patiala but died in the way to hospital.
A team of Khanna police had recovered a suicide note, in which the deceased had stated that he was forced to take this extreme step due to Tiwari. He wrote in the suicide note that goods from his rehri had been taken away on the behest of Tiwari. Khanna city police had registered a case under Section 306 of the IPC, said SHO city Khanna Sukhraj Singh. A large number of people on Saturday had staged a protest by carrying the body of the deceased infront of the Tiwari’ residence and demanded his immediate arrest. Police had reached on the spot and assured the protesters that the accused would be arrested. Police had also confirmed that suicide note had been recovered and it carried the name of Tiwari.
