Jalandhar: Former Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar on Sunday said that he was all set to constitute a ‘mahagathbandhan’ with leaders of the AAP or BSP ahead of the ensuing Assembly elections in the state. The former Congress MP was seen singing paeans of both parties and did not rule out the possibility of joining them in near future. Brar said that the ‘mahagathbandhan’ would be a platform against the ruling SAD-BJP alliance and the Congress misrule, which had ruined Punjab all these years. “A common minimum program will be made to work on the core burning issues, either with the AAP or the BSP,” he said, adding that he had no plans of launching another front or party in the state before the elections.
Addressing a press conference in Jalandhar, Brar said that he was all set to conduct a meeting of volunteers against the burning issues of drugs abuse, farmer suicides, poor educational and sports policy in different regions of Punjab. “The idea is to get feedback from the public about the welfare of Punjab. The first in this series meeting will be held on June 5 at Jalandhar, where as many as 300 volunteers will take part. Second such meeting will be held with 500 volunteers at Bathinda on June 20 and the third one with over 1000 volunteers will be held at Amritsar on July 20,” he said. The former MP also said that after conducting the volunteers’ meeting and making a common minimum program, he would hold a state-level rally at the birth place of Kartar Singh Sarabha on August 15.
“Before, August 15 ie Independence Day, I will chalk out my strategy that whether I will contest the Assembly elections independently or join hands with the AAP or BSP for the elections,” he added. However, when asked that AAP Punjab convener Sucha Singh Chhoteypur had said no to his AAP entry, Brar said, “No such statement was issued by the AAP. Rather they have been denying this.” A known detractor of Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh, he said that Amarinder was known for living an aristocratic life and had ruined the lives of the youth of Punjab. “The Badal duo on the other hand had ruined entire Punjab during their misrule of nine years. In fact, both SAD-BJP and the Congress were playing a friendly match in the state,” he said.
