Chandigarh: Brown Flies disturbing Farmers. After the white flies in the cotton belt, brown flies are disturbing the farmers. The white flies could not do much damage this time, but now the brown flies has started grafting farmers’ fields.According to the estimation, in a week only about 5 cr pesticides of cotton have been sold due to brown flies. In Bathinda district, there are nearly 60 dealers whose shops have started shouting. Pesticide dealers say that due to brown flies, their business is running successfully. A private company expert said that farmers are spending 200 to 400 rupees per acre pesticides for brown flies.In Punjab, Bathinda, Mansa, Fazilka and Ferozepur contain 95 percent area of cotton cultivation and Mansa is most affected area among others.Deputy Director of Agriculture Department Sukhdev Singh Sidhu said that brown flies have affected the crop. He said that in addition to Bathinda and Mansa, brown flies have seen in the Khuia server block and farmers have been recommended for pesticides. He said that the brown flies suck the leaves of the crop. He said that situation was under control and farmers have been advised to immediately water the fields.
