Chandigarh: Taking suo motu notice of the accident which occurred last month in which seven school children were killed and 20 others injured, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday issued notice to the Punjab government to tell the court that what action has been taken by it and what about the compensation to be given to the dependents of the deceased children.
While fixing November 8 as the next date of hearing, Division Bench comprising Justices S S Saron and Lisa Gill directed the Punjab government court officer to give details about it. He has been directed to inform about the reasons and findings of the accident.
It may be mentioned here that a school had fallen into a drain in Mahawa village near Indo-Pak border last month in which seven children were killed and many others injured. The accident had occurred on September 21. The children were students of MKD DAV Public School situated near Attari’s Neshta village.
Eyewitnesses claimed the bus hit a railing while crossing a bridge over the drain. The impact caused part of the bus to hang prompting panicked children to rush to the front of the bus. The bus remained hanging for a few minutes before it fell into the water.
A farmer grazing his animals nearby sounded an alert, bringing residents from adjoining villages to the site of the accident and starting rescue operations
