JALANDHAR: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today lashed out at the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for lying about his role in approving the construction of SYL saying, he was a congenital liar.
He reiterated his challenge to Mr Badal to swear before the Akal Takhat that he as the Chief Minister had not cleared the file regarding the acquisition of land for the SYL in 1978.
Reacting to Mr Badal’s outright denial about having signed the file clearing land acquisition for SYL in Punjab, Capt Amarinder said, the facts and records cannot lie. “It is very much part of history and record that he signed the file”, he asserted, while remarking, “Mr Badal is a congenital liar and he was trying to hide his faults with his lies”.
“Even his party’s general secretary Prem Singh Chandumajra admitted it publicly that Mr Badal had signed the file and it was an ‘innocent mistake’ committed by him (Mr Badal)”, he said, while pointing out, “neither Mr Badal nor his party denied it and nor could they deny it since they cannot undo the history and wipe out the records”.
Capt Amarinder suggested to Mr Badal instead of continuing with his lies and denying his role, he should apologise to people of Punjab for this betrayal which he committed to please his friend and the then Haryana Chief Minister Chaudhry Devi Lal by not only clearing the file but also accepting money for construction of the SYL.
Reacting to Mr Badal’s statement made at Aamdpur yesterday that getting Chandigarh to Punjab was like bringing alive a dead man, Capt Amarinder said, it was unbecoming of a Chief Minister to speak like that.
He said, Punjab has an inherent right and claim over Chandigarh as also it is part of the Rajiv-Longowal accord. “Our legal position is quite strong”, he said, while advising Mr Badal not to make such senseless statements that will convey state’s lack of will.
