Jalandhar: Presenting a united face with her ‘arch rival’, senior congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal on Friday termed Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Capt Amarinder Singh as ‘Saada Captain’ and said that he should be declared the Chief Ministerial candidate of the party. Bhattal went a step ahead in her adulation and said that Capt Amarinder was not just the ‘Captain’ (PPCC chief) of the state congress but that of the entire party rank and file. “Capt Amarinder was an experienced leader and one of the best successful CM of Punjab till date. It was high time that the congress high command declared him as the CM candidate in assembly elections 2017”, she said.
On the visit of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to Mohali on April 18, Bhattal said that the meeting was focused on providing a common platform to the party workers, where they would share views and about state congress with him. “Rahul Gandhi would not only seek suggestions from the workers but also give views about party functioning”, she said.
Talking to the media, Bhattal said that there was a strong possibility that the Gandhi scion might announce CM candidate name. “If Capt Amarinder’s name was announced as CM candidate, it would assist the party in getting the crucial NRI support from the foreign shores”, she maintained. She said that congress leaders should project a united face ahead of the assembly elections and if anybody indulges in indiscipline, he or she should be shown the door at the earliest.
Bhattal shared these thoughts in connection with the recent expulsion of senior congress leader Jagmeet Brar and Bir Devinder Singh. “Putting all differences aside, congress rank and file should focus on party unity and hard work to ensure win the Vidhan Sabha elections”, she added.
