Captain showing his affection to Beant’s family, offered DSP post to Beant’s grandson. Capt. Amarinder Singh government in the state is set to take Guriqbal Singh, a grandson of former Chief Minister Beant Singh, as DSP in the Punjab Police.
Guriqbal, 28, is the younger brother of Ludhiana MP Ravneet Bittu and a cousin of Khanna MLA Gurkirat Kotli. A commerce graduate, he is a trained pilot.
While government jobs have been offered to family members of slain police officers and politicians, but never to the kin of a Chief Minister assassinated while in office.
Sources in the Chief Minister’s Office said the proposal had come from Capt Amarinder Singh himself. It was on the Chief Minister’s nod that the department concerned had sought an application from Guriqbal, they said. The case will be formally approved at the next Cabinet meeting.
