Patiala: In a new twist in the deadly car accident case that claimed the lives of three B Tech students of Thapar University here just a day before, the owner of the vehicle took a U-turn and claimed that though Manikant was his friend, but he took the car on his own.
Car owner Kulbeer Singh son of Jaswinder Singh, resident of Manki Tehsil Samrala in Ludhiana district, claimed this in the statement given to the police regarding this case.
In his statement, Kulbeer Singh had stated that even though Manikant was his friend but he had taken his car on February 23 on his own and not mentioned anything to him. He said that he only came to know about his car being missing when the police informed him about the deadly accident of his car on the Patiala-Bhadson road.
Even as Tripuri Police had registered a case in this regard against some unidentified vehicle driver, assuming that the car might have been hit by an overspeeding vehicle, but the police is also investigating the case with other angles as well.
Sources claimed that when the car meet with the deadly accident, it took many somersaults on the road and only stopped after hitting lampposts situated outside a shop. When the police inspected the car, its speedometer was jammed at 180 km/hr.
It may be mentioned here that in the road accident, three students studying in B Tech in Thapar University namely Mani Kant (Patiala), Aman Singh (Zirakpur) and Arundeep Singh alias Rana (Naya Nangal) were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the car by the police. Also, another student Marikanan Mandal (West Bengal) was seriously injured and taken to the Government Rajindra Hospital for medical treatment.
