Numerous cases have been reported in the past when prisoners jumped the custody of Punjab Police jawans on their way to judicial courts. A large number of cops have been suspended and even dismissed in such cases for their act of negligence. Ironically, the state cops haven’t yet learnt a lesson.
A scene exposing the ‘seriousness’ of Punjab Police officials while taking the alleged criminals from jail to court was captured by Daily Post Assistant Editor Rajay Deep on Bathinda-Zirakpur national highway in Mansa district on Thursday morning.
A group of six policemen, with three handcuffed under-trials in custody, signalled a mini goods carrier (Mahindra Pick Up) at Mansa-Bathinda-Bhikhi crossing and pleaded to the driver to give them lift up to Bhikhi T-Point as they were all bound to reach Budhlada judicial courts. Finding the driver positive to help the cops, who were reportedly unwilling to shell out transportation fare, the men in Khaki along with their handcuffed co-passengers were quick to board the vehicle. While doing so they were virtually least bothered of the risk and sufferings of the vehicle not having adequate sitting arrangement and open from the rear side.
Reaching Bhikhi-Budhlada T-point, they all jumped off the vehicle. After crossing the road, they were all now waiting for another nobleman as the journey was yet just half covered. On being asked about the risk they took, the men in Khaki were quite bold in saying, “Enni tension nahi layidi ji.”
