A carjacking case was solved by the Nawanshahr police after a long faceoff with two hardcore criminals, who fled with a Swift car (PB08CA4747) from a private company employee from Sector 32-A on the Chandigarh Road.
Several rounds of bullets were fired between the police and the miscreants on Friday evening, following which they were arrested. One of the civilians also sustained bullet injury in the firing between the police and the carjackers.
The miscreants snatched a White Swift Dzire from one Rohit Kumar, an area sales manager at a private firm, at gunpoint from Sector 32 in Ludhiana at 1.30 pm. The police immediately swung into action and alerted its counterparts. A naka was laid accordingly in different districts to arrest the miscreants.
“After this, an alert was sounded in Nawanshahr and adjoining districts as well. DIG, Ludhiana Zone, Yurinder Singh, SSP, Khanna, Navjot Singh Mahil along with the police force immediately reached Rahon,” IG Shukla said, adding that the miscreants, meanwhile, abandoned the stolen car near Bharta Kalan village and snatched a motorcycle (PB-10-FE-8759) at gunpoint. The red alert was sounded again in Punjab accordingly.
The police party led by Nawanshahr DSP Mukhtyar Rai had put up a naka near Urapar village and the miscreants were seen coming on a stolen motorcycle. The DSP gave them a chase and the police party led by Banga DSP and SHO Sadar blocked the road from Urapar side.
The miscreants tried to flee after abandoning the motorcycle, but the police chased them. The miscreants fired at the vehicle of Nawanshahr DSP and the police party. The police also fired during the encounter. Sohan Lal, a resident of Burj Tehal Dass village, was injured in the firing. Finally, the police managed to arrest them with the snatched AK-47, a country-made pistol, four cartridges and a stolen motorcycle. The injured civilian was admitted to the Civil Hospital in Nawanshahr and he is out of danger.The police have registered cases under Sections 307, 332, 382 and 34 of the IPC at Rahon police station and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at Sadar Police station Nawanshahr. Those arrested had a criminal past and several cases were registered against them at different police stations.
