Ludhiana: With the increase in mercury level from last one week, the cases of diarrhea and gastroenteritis are simultaneously increasing, according to medical experts. Enquiries reveal that lack of awareness among the slum dwellers is the main cause for the present situation. The heaps of garbage are easily visible in slums and even stagnant water is seen emanating with foul smell, which poses danger to inhabitants in slums.
Residents of these localities say that the authorities concerned fail to pay attention towards cleanliness. Dr Avinash Jindal, Medicine Specialist at Civil Hospital, Ludhiana said, “From past few weeks, regular 4-5 patients of diarrhea and gastroenteritis are coming. Scorching heat is the main reason as people come out with covering anything. Due to which patients of stomachache, vomiting, loose motions among others are facing major problems.
People are not aware about these things”. “I am suggesting the residents to consume more water in these days, residents should drink lemon and water and avoid soft drinks and wear cotton clothes of light colour” added Jindal. Residents of slum areas on requesting anonymity suggested that authorities concerned should also organise cleanliness drives at slum areas. Moreover health department should organise awareness camp at slum areas to aware the slum resident regarding these problems and the solution to stay aware from them. Bacterial and viral infections causes diarrhea.
In these days, bacteria grow more due to high temperature and humidity level as compared to winters revealed by experts.
