Jalandhar: Adding a new chapter, the Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Thursday inaugurated ‘Centre of Excellence for Laparoscopy Surgery’ in the Department of Surgery. Resident Director Dr Kanwaljit Singh and Director Principal Dr Kulbir Kaur inaugurated the centre.
With the Laproscopy Surgery Centre, PIMS would impart training to graduates and post graduates in times to come. The Laproscopy Centre would function under the guidance of Dr Rajneesh Kumar from the Department of Surgery, who is the nodal incharge for this minimal access surgery.
In a press release, PIMS authorities stated that the Centre of Excellence would help young surgeons of region in enhancing basic hand eye coordination, cap knotting-suturing techniques along with handing of instrumentation under the expert faculty. In future, basic laparoscopy course and advance laparoscopic procedures like Hernia, hysterectomy & endosuturing on the lines of AIIMS Delhi would also be started.
Dr Kulbir Kaur, PIMS Principal said that such labs in institute would help the young and even practicing laparoscopic surgeons to improve their laparoscopic skills. Among those present on this occasion were Dr Ravindra Katoch, Professor Dr Subash Goyal and doctors from the surgery department.
