Patiala Police are ready to file charge sheet in a much hyped case in which journalist, Kanwar Sandhu was attacked in the premises of Central Jail here on December 19, 2015. Sandhu had gone there allegedly in a disguised identity and tried to meet death sentence awardee in Beant Singh assassination case, Balwant Singh Rajouana and a dismissed cop, Gurmeet Singh alias Pinki.
It is learnt that Patiala Police have decided to file charge sheet next week in this case, which involves Kanwar Sandhu, Gurpreet Singh alias Pinki and four employees of Central jail. Soon after the incident in the Central jail premises, the Police had registered an FIR under sections 166, 167, 218, 465, 468 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under section 54 of the Prison Act and had started investigation.
Senior Superintendent of the Police (SSP), Gurmeet Singh Chohan said the investigation was almost complete and the charge sheet was ready.It may be mentioned here that this case cropped up last year when Kanwar Sandhu went into the Central jail, Patiala to meet Rajouna and Gurmeet Singh alias Pinki on December 19, 2015.
Sandhu was allegedly helped by Rajouna’s sister, Kamaldeep Kaur and four other employees of the Central jail in this effort as Kanwar Sandhu claimed. In the jail, Kanwar Sandhu was allegedly attacked by Rajouna. It is however learnt that there is no mention about attack and Kamaldeep Kaur in the case.
