Chetan Chaudhary from the Students Organisation of India (SOI) was elected the President of Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) 2019 on Friday. Facing a tough competition from all rest of the contenders for the presidential post, Chaudhary managed to get over the line with a margin of 479 votes.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) which is affiliated to the Hindu nationalist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh came second, as its candidate Paras Rattan from the Law department got 2,313 votes. Priya Garg, candidate of the left-leaning student wing Students for Society (SFS) came third with 2,271 votes. Just like 2018 elections, the National Students Union of India (NSUI), which is the students’ wing of the Indian National Congress (INC) ended up at the fourth position.
Its candidate Nikhil Narmeta (NSUI) from University Institute of Engineering and Technology came received 2,253 votes. However, the NSUI had something to cheer about as its candidate Rahul Kumar from Anthropology Department bagged the position of Vice President post in the council, with a win margin of 988 votes.
