Children’s special train ‘Vaadi Ki Sair’ flagged off

Ferozepur: To cater the public demand for enhancing rail services in the Kashmir Valley region and boost the domestic tourism the Indian Railways introduced the new childrens special train in Kashmir Valley on Sunday. When the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti flagged off the ‘Vaadi Ki Sair’ new DEMU Train between Banihal and Baramullah in the valley region from Quazigund Railway Station and travelled on the maiden service of this new Children Special DEMU from Quazigund to Srinagar.

A team of 610 school children travelled in the inaugural train boarding the train at various points viz Banihal, Quazigund, Anant Nag, Awantipur, Srinagar, Budgam, Sopore and Baramulla. CM Mufti visited and interacted with the children. She lauded the Railway’s effort for running the new train service.

Telling about the train DRM Ferozepur Anuj Parkash told that this train ‘Vaadi Ki Sair would run on every second and fourth Sunday of the month from Banihal to Baramulla. He said that Railways had restored services of all the DEMU/fast DEMU trains in the Valley.

It is to be mentioned here that the completion of Jammu-Udhampur Railway link in 2005 and Udhampur-Arimata Vaishno Devi Katra in July 2014 spelled the dawn of new era in the rail connectivity in the state of Jammu & Kashmir.

The rail line in Kashmir Valley was constructed in a phased programme with the Railway steadily commissioning rail sections between Anantnag and Mazahom in October 2008, Mazahom-Baramulla section in February 2009 and subsequently 18 km long section between Quazagund to Anantnag in October 2009 thus completing 119 km Quazigund-Baramulla railway line of the Kashmir valley.
