Ferozepur: Protesting lawyers and Police clashed on Saturday near Jalalabad when the administration turned down the demand of lawyers to meet Deputy Chief Minister to hand over their memorandum to him.
The lawyers have been demanding to add 44 villages of Mahmujota circle with Jalalabad sub division.
As per schedule, the Deputy Chief Minister was to go from Tehsil Road to the side of 44 villages of Mahmujoya circle, where these lawyers too had planned to lodge their protest.
Sub Divisional Magistrate, Jalalabad tried to persuade the lawyers to understand not to go that side but the latter insisted on their plan, following which the Deputy Chief Minister’s route was changed.
The protesting lawyers then went to the old bus stand where the police tried to stop them, resulting in a clash of sorts. The lawyers later lodged dharna on the main Road.
Bar president, Bakhshish Kachra said the lawyers had been demanding to add the 44 villages of Mahmujota with Jalalabad subdivision for long time. He said these villages were very close to Jalalabad but had not been attached with it, causing inconvenience to the folks. He lamented that the Deputy Chief Minister had not paid heed to their genuine demand, which would prove dear to the government in polls.
