Nawanshahr:Tightening the noose over the illegal mining in the district, Deputy Commissioner Sonali Giri here on Monday directed the concerned officials to ensure complete curtailing of all illegal mining activities related to sand and gravel in the district.
“Apart from carrying out checking of documents of vehicles ferrying sand and gravel, proper monitoring of functioning of JCB machines and tippers registered in the district be carried out on a daily basis,” directed the DC who ordered organising special ‘nakas’ during nights with the help of police officials of the rank of Assistant Sub-inspector at least so as to effectively curb the illegal mining activities in the district.
“As many as 16 cases against illegal mining have been registered in various police stations across the district in the past couple of day,” she said while presiding over a meeting convened on the issue on Monday.
DDPO was also directed to depute his officials in the villages to inform the rural public about the ongoing drive against illegal mining. “People should be asked to desist from giving their tractor-trolleys for ferrying sand etc,” added the DC who urged people to inform about any incident of illegal mining on helpline number 95017-27014.
Later in the evening, Deputy Commissioner Sonali Giri raided the mining spot at village Burj Tehldas with officials of police and civil administration. Deputy Commissioner caught eight tractor trolleys, three JCB machines and one heavy duty machine on the spot.
The persons were mining after the restricted time period and violated the rules.
Deputy Commissioner reached there with civil and police administration where this incident was noticed.
SDM Nawashahr Geetika Singh said that these checkings will be done regularly on the strict instructions of state government. DSP Balwinder Singh said that infringing of laws will not be spared and case will be registered against the accused.
