Former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) secretary Anil Dutta on Thursday opened front against former cabinet minister and senior Congress leader Avtar Singh Henry and demanded a Hindu face instead. Dutta, who had himself applied for ticket from Jalandhar north constituency seat said that Henry was unfit for the Jalandhar north constituency and a Hindu leader should be fielded to ensure victory from this constituency. This time, Avtar Henry along with his son Bawa Henry has applied for ticket from Jalandhar north constituency, though senior Henry lost twice from this seat. Notably, Henry was also promoting his son Bawa Henry from this seat.
To a query that whether Congress should replace those candidates who had lost in the previous two elections, Dutta rather staked claim on Jalandhar north constituency and said that Henry should not be fielded from this seat. “Avtar Henry belongs to Jat Sikh community and he should be fielded from Nakodar, Moga or some other constituency, where Jat Sikh vote was prominent. Now, Congress should not repeat the same mistake, which it committed earlier. Congress should field a Hindu leader from a Hindu dominated seat”, he added.Dutta, who earlier remained Managing Director of Central Cooperative Bank Jalandhar said that even Capt Amarinder had admitted post the 2012 Assembly Election defeat that wrong tickets were allotments led to the defeat of Congress in Punjab.
