Ludhiana: Like in Punjab, Congress party sweeped Ludhiana district with eight seats while Aam Aadmi Party managed to get only three seats that too in rural segments.
Lok Insaaf party (LIP), alliance partner of Aam Aadmi Party retained their two seats while Shiromani Akali Dal registered victory only in one seat.
In Six urban assembly segments, Congress registered victory on four seats while Lok Insaaf party of Bains brothers got two seats. However Bains brothers were contesting elections on five seats under the banner of Lok Insaaf party (LIP) but Bains brothers only managed to get their own seats.
The Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Surinder Dawar, Rakesh Pandey and Sanjay Talwar registered victory in Ludhiana west, Central, North and East Assembly segments respectively.
Interestingly Aam Aadmi Party was hoping for clean sweep in Ludhiana district byt the party managed to get only three seats. AAP candidate HS Phoolka defeated Shiromnai Akali Dal candidate Manpreet Singh Ayali with margin of 4100 votes and Saravjit kaur Manuke and Jagtar Singh Jagga Hissowal of AAP won Jagraon and Raikot respectively.
In Rural Assembly segments, Congress candidate Gurkirat Singh kotli, grandson of former chief Minister Beant Singh won election from khanna, Lakhvir Singh Lakha from Payal and former IAS Kuldeep Singh vaid from Gill constituency.
In Ludhiana SAD- BJP alliance won only one seat in Ludhiana district on which Cabinet Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon defeated Congress candidate Satwinder Bitti and Harjot Singh Bains of AAP.
Earlier, Congress and Akali Dal were having six seats each and Bains brothers had two seats.
