Cong tops in expenditure on electioneering, BJP and AAP follow closely. The recent expenditure statement revealed the ruling Congress at the top in spending money to woo the voters of Gurdaspur constituency, followed by BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).Both the Congress and BJP candidates have filed their nominations on September 22 and on the very same day, both the candidates including Congress’ Sunil Jakhar and BJP’s Swaran Salaria had initiated the poll campaign. Prior to this, Aam Aadmi Party candidate Major General (retd) Suresh Khajuria started their campaign on September 20. The details on expenditure submitted by political parties were up to September 29, that is expenses incurred in seven days in case of Congress, BJP but nine days pertaining to AAP.As per the statement, Congress is at the top with total expenditure incurred at nearly Rs 14 lakh, followed by BJP at Rs 4.80 lakh and AAP which spent Rs 4.12 lakh. However, the expenditure incurred by BJP on electioneering is varying from the statement maintained by the team of expenditure observers which puts the expenditure at Rs 11.04 lakh. Additional Deputy Commissioner Gurmit Singh Multani said that they have already issued a notice to BJP, seeking explanation for variation in two days. He also stated that the Congress had also submitted erroneous details, which showed the expenditure at just Rs 5 lakh which was also not matching with the expenditure details of their team but later, the Congress agreed on the details maintained by the expenditure team.Besides, the Aam Aadmi Party has till now not shown their expenditure register to the expenditure observer after which a notice was also issued to them by the EO. The expenditure statement of AAP candidate was maintained by team of expenditure observer. Additional Deputy Commissioner Gurmit Singh Multani, who is in team of expenditure observers said that notice, has been issued to BJP seeking explanation in two days.
