Congress to train activists for digital ‘slugfest’. Congress has pulled up its socks and is working on a plan to connect directly a humble worker with party president. As social media plays dominant role in framing perceptions and ideas, the Congress has started a programme to link its booth level workers at the grassroot level with party president.On Saturday, a meeting of coordinators from all 117 assembly constituencies was called in Punjab Congress Bhawan, Chandigarh. Ruchira Chaturvedi, the official trainer updated the coordinators how the party programmes, anti-party activity and can be uploaded and identified on WhatsApp, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook . Chaturvedi stated that everything is being done under the ‘Mission-2019’.During 2014, General polls, Bharatiya Janata Party led by Prime Minister candidate Narendra Modi used social media platforms to connect directly with youth and BJP workers. According to the survey report, the Facebook users had a tremendous impact over the results of the polls in 160 of India‘s 543 constituencies. 50 per cent of the population is below 25 years of age. 65 per cent of the population is below 35 years. According to current data, India has more than 46.20 crore active internet users and active mobile internet user are 44.20 crore. Thus the Congress has upped its ante and is holding such training camps in various parts of the country. The coordinators were trained to use live Facebook, involve neutral peoples in their groups, forward party’s activities and counter the anti-party activities. Chaturvedi also highlighted that in future tickets in Congress will be distributed on the basis of information received from booth level workers directly through social media.
