Chandigarh: Punjab Congress on Monday accused SAD-BJP government of ‘not fulfilling’ its promise of giving 1.13 lakh jobs to the youths ahead of 2017 Assembly polls. “Punjab government had promised to offer 1.13 lakh jobs in November last year within six months. But till now, the Akali government has failed to deliver on its promise,” Punjab Congress vice president and chief spokesperson Sunil Jakhar said.
Jakhar claimed that the state government had advertised in newspapers about 1.13 lakh jobs to be offered to the state’s youth. “But nothing has been done so far to give employment to our youth by the government,” said the Congress MLA. “Where are these jobs,” Jakhar asked. “The government had announced the jobs to divert attention and save itself from the severe criticism which it was facing in connection with Bargari sacrilege incident and whitefly attack on cotton,” the former CLP leader said.
Jakhar further stated the Akali government had also announced to recruit 4,901 ETT teachers, 1,277 Patwaris and 2,664 clerks and data entry operators. “What to talk of giving jobs, the government has not yet started the process of appointment,” he alleged. Jakhar also raised question mark over appointing 6,000 constables in the state police department. “We doubt the much publicised appointment of 6,000 constables in police department to take place,” he said.
