Ludhiana: The Congress Legislature Party chief and the Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi today promised the youth of Punjab that the congress party will start job oriented skill centres in every district of Punjab for the youth. There is dearth of skilled centres which can give on hand training to youth who have just passed matric or higher secondary. The congress party will implement this for the youth after forming government in 2017. There are more than 50 Lac unemployed youth in Punjab until this problem is addressed we cannot stop drug menace and the law and order problem. Unemployment leads to these two major problems. The state government organised a survey and brought out a report on unemployment in Punjab in 1998. It was estimated that 14.72 lakh youth in the age group of 18-35 years were unemployed. Out of the total unemployed youth, 62 per cent were educated up to matriculation and above and 38 per cent were uneducated or educated below the matriculation level. After this, there was no effort to update this figure by organising another survey on this issue. The employment exchanges which used to register the unemployed have been either closed or have become defunct with government outsourcing many jobs to private contractors. The state has not been able to create even one software centre near any of two airports in the state. There are reports of closure of manufacturing units at Mandi Gobindgarh, Ludhiana, Goraya and Amritsar. The government has no plan to engage the youth in gainful employment. Channi also promised to have school college and university regulatory commission in place to check the harassment faced by the students and the parents also.
On the second day of the yatra, Channi also paid tributes to Shaheed Bhagat Singh and said that he is the idol for the youth of Punjab. The youth should follow the life style of the Saheed. The Yatra entered Ludhiana through Samrala, Sahnewal and crisscrossed through all the urban constituencies. The yatra got massive response in the Ludhiana city where large number of people from every walk of life came out and joined the yatra.
Addressing the media on the second day at Ludhiana, Channi targeted the Aam Aadmi Party saying it was suffering from utter confusion going by the contradictory statements of its leaders. He said the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Deputy Chief Minister son Sukhbir Singh Badal had already been deserted by the people who were determined to dump these two parties. Mr Channi said empty chairs mocking at Sukhbir Badal at Ladhowal near Ludhiana a day earlier was a writing on the wall and indication of anger of the people against the ruling alliance in general and the Badal family in particular whose only objective has been to loot the state and this was going on even when the elections were just a few months away. He asserted once the elections were announced, the people would start totally boycotting the Akalis who had unleashed naked goondaism in the state under this rule. He said there had never been such a deterioration I the law and order situation.
Coming down heavily on AAP, Channi referred to the leaders of this party speaking in different voices on the issue of joining hands with Navjot Singh Sidhu and company. It was a clear sign of the ground slipping from under the feet of the party. He attacked its leadership for being insecure going by the fact that AAP lacked its organizational set up having only a state convener and it was only now that a person had been appointed general secretary. He said more than insecurity, party convener Mr Arvind Kejriwal did not trust the Punjabis and it was for this reason that he had deployed army of outsiders as incharge of organizational affairs. It was only after revolt within its ranks that this army of outsiders had been withdrawn.
