Jalandhar – The Congress-led Municipal Corporation Jalandhar (MCI) on Tuesday tabled its first Annual Budget for the year 2018-19 in the house. The civic body has cleared the budget of Rs587 crore in a stormy session. In this, Rs203 crore will be spent on the salaries of the officers and employees. While Rs358 crore will be spent on for the development of the city. This year budget is Rs50 crore more than the previous financial year. The session started on a stormy note as opposition started putting allegations over illegal sewerage. The opposition said scam of lakhs has been done by laying down illegal sewerage. Mayor Jagdish Raja said that when he went to the spot and after an investigation he stopped the work and ordered an inquiry.During the house meetings, there was a ruckus over the issue of property tax waivers. During this, the Opposition with the poster said that when the Congress Mayor Jagdish Raj Raj was in the opposition, he had talked about the property tax waiver. But the tax has not been waived-off yet, ruckus continued for 20 minutes. After Mayor’s reply, the opposition calmed down. Wariana residents protested outside of the MCJ office before the budget session against the plant constructed in the area. Nearly, 500 people have raised slogans against the Congress and Corporation administration.MCJ is depending on GST share, surprisingly, the corporation employees pay is Rs203 crore a year and collect themselves only 125 crore as tax and fee. In such a scenario, the Municipal Corporation, mainly depends on the GST share which will come from the Punjab government in the year 2018-19. Corporation hopes to get Rs 205 crore as its share.
