Congress using police to win Gurdaspur bypoll: Kamal Sharma
Gurdaspur: A poll rally of the SAD-BJP alliance at Hanuman Chowk here was disrupted this Tuesday by Congress in the presence of police, leading to resentment and anger among the SAD-BJP leaders and workers. Seeking prompt action against the concerned officials and the people involved in the disruption of the rally, a delegation of SAD-BJP leaders, led by former state BJP president Kamal Sharma met the DC here today. The delegation comprised of former minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Phagwara MLA Som Prakash, Charanjit Singh Brar and media in charge Subodh Sharma. In its memorandum to the DC, the delegation informed that chaos prevailed at the venue as some Congress leaders breached Z plus security and came on to the stage and created a ruckus. Instead of stopping them, the police was seen instigating them, alleged the SAD-BJP leaders. Kamal Sharma alleged that since the brother of Gurdaspur SSP had contested an election on a Congress ticket, he owes allegiance to the Congress. Sharma said that free and fair elections can’t be expected in the SSP’s presence as the police was pressurizing the voters to vote for the Congress candidate. The SAD-BJP leaders demanded that the police and administrative officials responsible for this incident should be transferred immediately, and paramilitary forces be deployed at the earliest so as the people cast their vote fearlessly.Sharma informed that after listening to the delegation DC has recommended that the SHO and ASI responsible should be suspended and has directed inquiry into the matter. Attacking the Congress, Sharma said, “Congress and Sunil Jakhar are known for using police for threatening their political opponents and win the elections. However, the Akali-BJP workers won’t get intimidated by such cowardly acts and will ensure that the SAD-BJP candidate emerges victorious”.“The SAD-BJP candidate is receiving unprecedented support in Gurdaspur owing to the developmental works of the Modi government. The Congress and its candidate, Sunil Jakhar are perturbed by this and hence is resorting to such acts”, said Sharma.
