Jalandhar:Blaming abnormal increase in paper prices, the Box Manufacturers Association of Punjab on Monday said that the corrugated box industry was facing huge losses, as a result of which they have decided to increase the prices of boxes by 15 percent.
The corrugated box manufacturers said that their industry was on the verge of closure and the centre government should intervene immediately to save them. The Jalandhar based corrugated industry members held a meeting in this regard on Monday.
Addressing a press conference, President of the association Manish Arora said that there was a 20 percent increase in the price of raw material ie kraft paper and duplex paper used for manufacturing boxes in the last one month. “Corrugated box industry meets the packaging industry demands of all kinds of industry in the country”, he pointed out.
Arora said that the corrugated box industry across the country involved 200 automatic and more than 6 lakh labourers. “With a total market size of Rs 18,000 crore per annum, the industry was facing a huge survival crisis. We have decided to increase the cost of the boxes by 15 percent and public should bear with the price hike”, he said.
