Jalandhar: The Jalandhar Rural Police on Saturday arrested a couple with Rs 1.50 lakh counterfeit new Rs 500 and Rs 2000 Indian Currency notes in Bilga village of Jalandhar.
The couple was identified as Raj Kumar and his wife Baljit Kaur, who were arrested from Gadaran village under Police Station Bilga.
SHO Bilga Inspector Inderjit Singh said that acting on a tip off, a team led by ASI Labh Singh conducted raid and nabbed the couple from Gadaran village on Saturday evening. The couple was commuting in their Scorpio car, when the police intercepted them with the fake Rs 1.50 lakh new Indian Currency notes.
The SHO said that they also recovered 200 grams opium from the possession of the couple, who were heading to some other place in their vehicle. The police also said that Raj Kumar was a convict under an old NDPS Act case.
It was also learnt that another accomplice Jaswinder Singh, who was the brother in law of Raj Kumar was also involved in the gang. Raid was on to nab him, the SHO said.
Meanwhile, a case under section 489- A, 498- B, 498-C, 420, 477, 471, 468 of IPC and a case under NDPS Act was registered against the accused.
