Located off the National Highway No 95, Dakha is a town of Ludhiana district. The total number of voters in Dakha assembly seat is 1,77,568. The Election Commission has established 218 polling stations, situated at 136 different locations across this assembly segment.

The constituency is a battle field for heavy weights of the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The AAP had pitched its potential Chief Ministerial candidate and Supreme Court advocate H S Phoolka from here against Manpreet Singh Ayali, a SAD candidate, who is known for development works done on in the constituency.
The Congress has nominated Major Singh Bhaini as its MLA candidate from this constituency.
The constituency is reserved for Schedule Caste candidates and had been a stronghold of SAD for the last one decade.
In 2007, Darshan Singh Shivalik of SAD had defeated Congress candidate Malkiat Singh Dakha with a margin of 14,721 votes.
Manpreet Singh Ayali is sitting MLA from Dakha and was elected from this Vidhan Sabha seat in the previous assembly elections by winning with a margin of 16,366 votes. Jasbir Singh (Jassi) Khangura of Congress was the trailing candidate.
