The SAD Circle Lambra has put up hoardings against SAD Jalandhar Rural chief Ajit Singh Kohar with allegations of nepotism and ignoring grass roots level workers
Jalandhar: A day after Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal expressed displeasure, Damanvir Singh, the son of Kartarpur MLA Sarwan Singh Phillaur on Saturday put up hoardings against Transport Minister Ajit Singh Kohar in the Lambra circle of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
The hoardings carrying a letter signed by Damanvir Singh Phillaur and issued by SAD Circle Lambra with open allegations against Kohar were put up at key locations in Lambra near Jalandhar. In the hoarding, questions have been raised against Kohar over the appointments of his ‘chosen few’ and ignoring party workers in the SAD. Besides, he especially mentioned the name of Gurdyal Singh Chitti, a close confidante of Kohar, for having been inducted in the party. “Shun nepotism and work for SAD’s promotion”, the hoarding read.
On Friday, CM Badal who was at Begowal in Kapurthala had said that Damanvir was indulging in a wrong practice. CM Badal came out in the support of the SAD Jalandhar Rural president Ajit Singh Kohar and expressed displeasure over Damanvir’s open revolt against the party’s senior most leader.
However, when contacted Transport Minister Ajit Singh Kohar said, “I have no issues with Damanvir Singh. He is like my grandson, if I have to say something, it will be conveyed to SAD Party president Sukhbir Singh Badal. I have spent my entire life with discipline in the SAD and don’t want to comment on this issue.”
Kohar also clarified that the appointments done by him in the SAD Jalandhar Rural unit were done as per the directions of the SAD party president. “I have been working as per party’s policy”, he added.
Interestingly, Damanvir feigned ignorance over the hoardings put up in the SAD Lambra circle and said that he would now take up this issue with SAD party president, “I am not aware of any such hoardings being put against Kohar. Moreover, I don’t have any fight with Kohar. All I want is that hard working people should be brought to the forefront in the SAD.”
Meanwhile, YAD Doaba Zone chief Sarabjot Singh Sabi said, “Taking note of the open revolt and putting up of hoardings against Kohar, I have issued a notice to Damanvir today. We have given him week’s time to respond, failing which further action would be taken.”
Notably, Damanvir Singh, who is the senior vice president of the Doaba zone of the Youth Akali Dal (YAD) opened front against Kohar last week by announcing a signature campaign against Kohar. Damanvir has alleged that Kohar was indulging in ‘nepotism’, ignoring grass roots level workers and picking his chosen few in the SAD.
It is pertinent to mention here that Damanvir has earlier also hit headlines with his statements against Chief Parliamentary Secretary and Phillaur MLA Avinash Chander. Damanvir has sought the resignation of Avinash after his name figured in the multi crore synthetic drugs mafia case and repeated summoning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) sleuths.
