Ludhiana: A day after the Commissioner of Police Kunwarvijay Partap Singh gives premature retirement to three cops including two Assistant Sub inspectors following which the traffic cops went on strike, a major reshuffle was ordered in traffic wing. Several cops from police stations, PCR squad and other wings were deputed in traffic wing while the half of cops of traffic wing were shifted at police lines or some other wings of department.
On Thursday the traffic cops were again back on their duties and the traffic was smooth in city. However at some major points no cop was witnessed.
Talking to DailyPost, Police Commissioner Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh said that the traffic cops were back on their duties. The traffic wing of police was revamped and several cops deputed at police stations and other wings were now shifted to traffic wing.
Sources said that the traffic cops who were deputed at same points from years were shunted out from traffic wing and posted in other wings of department.
The traffic cops were also directed to not to impose challan for traffic violation for one month as top cop wants commuters to follow traffic rules voluntarily.
It is pertinent to mention here that on Wednesday Police commissioner has given premature retirement to ASI Kulwinder Singh, Davinder Singh and Munshi Neelkanth. The cops were punished for defying orders of top cop, imposing wrong challan to Sikh lady for not wearing helmet and corruption. However the cops pleaded innocence. Following the strict action of top cop, the traffic cops skipped their duties and assembled at Police lines in protest.
Major reshuffle in traffic wing, policemen return on duty
Police Commissioner Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh have marked probe in case of two ASIs and Munshi of traffic wing. Top cop said that he has marked inquiry and their role will be probed by senior police officials. The cops were accused of defying the orders of police commissioner, imposing wrong challans and corruption. The officials will probe their roles and submit report to top cop. Sources said that Director General of police (DGP) have also sought report from Police commissioner in case. After the top cop hints conspiracy of senior IPS officer behind the controversy, the intelligence wing of Police department was on toes to know the name of conspirator and to give report to their bosses.
