LUDHIANA: The daylong workshop to kick off Swachh Survekshan 2017 was conducted on Saturday. Ludhiana among 500 cities also participated in the video conferencing specially organised for the day. In this Survekshan, 500 cities having population above 1 lakh would be judged and ranked on basis of their cleanliness.
The workshop started with brief introduction about the Swachh Survekshan 2017 which would start from January 2017. The officials present in the workshop were told about the criteria on the basis of which city would judged. Followed by this, the video conferencing took place where officials from Municipal Corporations of cities like Dhanbad shared their experience under Swachh Bharat Mission and the visible changes in the condition of these cities.
After the video conferencing officials listened to the speech of Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu. The Union Minister asked the corporate houses to come forward and support MCs in actually making their city ‘swachh’. The Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria after listening to the speech asked the corporate houses to come forward for the same. He asked the industrialists to contribute in installing dustbins at all public places so that littering in open could come to end. The convener of CII Rahul Ahuja who was also there promised installation of 25 sets of dustbins from their association in the beginning and then more dustbins would be installed by them.
Gohalwaria said, “The need is to change the mindset of public because only with public support we can achieve our target of total open defacation free city. We would work hard and perform our best to get better ranking in the competition.” He also announced that they would honour best sweepers on the Independence Day at D Zone office to encourage them.
Meanwhile, MC Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori told that experience was good as they came to know about activities going on in other cities. Regarding cleanliness plans he shared that static compactors will be installed in Dugri area and also at other certain locations. He also shared that under smart city plans they would start segregation of garbage from Sarabha Nagar and Ghumar Mandi areas.
ADC Rishipal, additional commissioner Amrit Kaur Gill, the Medical Officer Health Dr Charanjit Singh Uppal, Vipul Malhotra, NGO members Rahul Verma, CII convenor Rahul Ahuja, councilor Tanvir Dhaliwal and many others were present.
In the end, the officials also showed the staff six presentations which were sent by the Ministry of Urban Development carrying the details of Survekshan, Swachh Bharat app launched for citizens grievance redressal mechanism, toll free number 1969 for citizens call center, SBM thematic drives etc.
