DC ask Industry Department to keep a check on illegal mining
Mansa – Mansa Deputy Commissioner Mr. Dharam Pal Gupta today directed the officials of Industry Department and police to ensure complete ban on illegal mining in Mansa. The Deputy Commissioner said this while presiding over a meeting of the civil servants and police officials. Gupta also discussed various aspects of illegal mining and asked the officials to chalk out a strategy to keep a check over the illegal sale of sand. The meeting was held in the office of Deputy Commissioner wherein civil servants from different departments and the policemen were also present.Deputy Commissioner was apprised of the fact that there are few pockets in the district wherein mining is being done at 30-40 feet below the ground and the sand extracted is of third-class category. But such cases too have now come to a standstill due to the registration of numerous cases in the recent past. They added that earlier the third-class category sand was mixed with the first-class sand to increase its volume. The Deputy Commissioner said that such mixing of the sand by notorious elements would not be tolerated at any cost and it should be dealt with an iron hand. He asked DSP Gursharan Singh in the meeting to ensure that no illegal mining or the sale of illegal sand or even its mixing takes place in Mansa district. Secretary of the Mineral Foundation Preetmohinder Singh informed that since 2013, 11 FIRs in connection with illegal mining were lodged in different police stations across Mansa district and sentence was announced in 9 of the FIRs which two cases are pending. He stated that an online portal—PB Gram—has also been made by the Punjab Government wherein people can lodge complaints or inform about the illegal mining. Apart from the online portal, people may also send their complaints directly to the senior government officials by simply making a phone call at the helpline number—01652-227599. ADC (g) GPS Sahota, DSP Gursharan Singh, Assistant Commissioner (general) Om Parkash, Assistant Commissioner (complaints) Deepak Ruhela, tehsildar Amarjeet Singh, SDO Sumit Jindal, DSP Gursharan Singh, Executive Engineer of Water Supply and Sewerage Board Pawan Goyal and various other department officials were also present during the occasion.
