Nawanshahr: Keeping in view the complaint filed by the Kandi Human Rights Society against the charges of exorbitant fees and funds, forcing parents to buy text books and uniforms by the management of a Balachaur-based private school, Mount Carmel School, the Deputy Commissioner Vipul Ujwal today convened a meeting with the representatives of the NGO and the school management on Tuesday.
While personally hearing the grievances of the NGO, parents and school management minutely, DC Vipul Ujwal asked the school managements of the all the private schools to set up “Grievances Redressal Cell” with designate full time “nodal officer” to register the complaints of the parents. “The name and telephone number of the designate nodal officer of the ‘Grievance Redressal Cell’ should be there in the students’ diaries,” said the DC, adding the Nodal officer should be asked to give the complaint registration number to the person filing the complaint. Further, the complaints should regularly monitored by the “Parents Teachers Association” and the complainant should be informed about the measures taken by the school with regard to the complaint”, said the Deputy Commissioner while directing the District Education Officer, Dinesh Kumar to communicate these directions to all the private schools in the district.
The DC also asked the DEO to prepare a comparative report of the hike in fee structure, status report of compliance of the Right to Education Act and directions of Fee Committee. “The report will be sent to the Chairman of the Fee Committee so that action could be taken if any irregularity surfaces in the report”, added the DC. The ADC, Paramjit Singh, Deputy DEO, Taranjit Singh, representatives of the school management of Mount Carmel, Balachaur, Councilor Param Singh Khalsa and members of the Kandi Human Rights Society, among others, were present, at the meeting.
