Taking serious note of the death of a person due to diarrhea outbreak, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Wednesday announced free medical treatment for all diarrhea patients at civil hospital Phillaur.The DC accompanied by SDM Phillaur, medical team and Municipal council officials visited the affected areas of ward number 9 and 10 and met the patients admitted at civil hospital.He directed Civil Surgeon Jalandhar, Dr Maninder Minhas to ensure round the clock availability of medical assistance for the patients to help control the outbreak. It may be mentioned here that from last two days, diarrhea cases were reported from ward no 9 and 10 of Phillaur.Interacting with patients at civil hospital, the DC said that the initial enquiry has revealed that the supply of polluted water as the reason behind the outbreak. The DC also ordered the water supply department to immediately stop the supply of contaminated water for two day in affected areas and in that span of time the department would ensure the supply of safe drinking water.The Deputy Commissioner has also ordered the Executive officer Municipal council Phillaur to provide chlorine enriched drinking water through water tankers. Besides, this 10 more tankers have been provided to MC Phillaur to overcome the trouble.Meanwhile, addressing the complaints raised by the patients during the visit, the DC asked civil surgeon Dr. Maninder Kaur Minhas to depute additional teams of doctors and supporting staff besides personally overseeing the medical assistance to patients. It was also instructed to station more medical teams in affected areas.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner said that door to door survey should be done for collecting the data regarding affected persons and to aware the people about the precautionary measures like drinking boiled water etc.The Deputy Commissioner has also asked the XEN water supply and sanitation department to submit estimate for replacement of affected pipes to eliminate the possibilities of water borne diseases.
