Bathinda: It was a major embarrassment for a senior Akali leader of Lambi Assembly constituency when the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) discontinued power supply to his residence for standing defaulter of power bills for past two years, with a total pendency of Rs23 lakh.
Not enough, the PSPCL staff also didnt mind removing the electricity supply meter, which was reportedly issued in the name of his son.
This senior Akali leaders is identified as the party’s district president Dyal Singh Kolianwali, who is also the Chairman of Punjab Agro.
According to information there were two power supply meters installed in Kolianwali’s palatial house, located at a distance from the hustle bustle of the village in his fields.
One of such power connections was in the name of Kolianwali himself and the second was in the name of Parminder Singh Kolianwali, son of Dyal singh Kolianwali.
Parminder had once courted controversy when his video of opening indiscriminate firing in air at a wedding turned viral on social media last year.
It is learnt that the PSPCL officials, after repeated reminders through correspondence, (which the family countered saying that there was no reminder sent to them) finally opted to visit Kolianwali’s place on Thursday.
On seeing them the family cleared the bills of two connections which were issued in the name of Dyal Singh Kolianwali and Karnail Singh Kolianwali.
However, they expressed reluctance in clearing the dues standing against Parminder Singh Kolianwali, which the PSPCL staff calculated worth Rs 23 lakh.
Apparently having the consent of senior officials, the team from Abul Khurana sub-division, PSPCL, on Friday revisited the place and disconnected the supply to that very connection. Unwilling to listen to the ‘powerful’ family, which wanted the relaxation for few days to arrange money, the Powercom staffers removed the power supply meter on Friday.
Unwilling to be quoted, an official of the PSPCL informed that earlier they were finding it impossible to take action as the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was the frequent visitor to Kolianwali’s place but now as the PSPCL, during the model code of conduct period, has decided to act tough against defaulters, the action was taken.
A section of public in Lambi Assembly segment has started seeing it with different perspective. Some of them observed it a signal from the ruling family after they faced embarrassment during poll campaign with people openly coming out against Kolianwalia nd levelling allegations upon him of being high-handed.
However, the senior officials of the PSPCL denied any such thing with a mention that they would be strict to all defaulters as recovering the dues was a big task for them.
It is pertinent to mention that after the PSPCL action against Kolianwali, numerous Congress and AAP activists of the constituency personally contacted media persons to divulge the details as they find him one of their biggest rival in politics.
Despite repeated attempts, Dyal Singh Kolianwali and Parminder Singh Kolianwali could be contacted as both of them didn’t respond to the phone calls.
