Jalandhar: A 55-year-old person was allegedly burnt alive on Wednesday afternoon by some unidentified assailants, who attacked him in his dera at Bhadaas village under Begowal in Kapurthala district. The assailants decamped with three bags of wheat and one bag of rice. Senior police officials, after reaching the site, started investigation in the matter. A case under Sections 460 and 436 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Bholath police station.
Police said the victim, identified as Kala Singh, was alone when he was attacked by the assailants. He was dragged to one of the rooms in dera and set him afire by the assailants. When Joginder Singh, a local farmer, saw smoke coming out of dera, he rushed to the spot and found to his astonishment that Kala Singh was all burnt. He called the police immediately. His body was taken to Kapurthala Civil Hospital for the post-mortem examination. Senior Superintendent of Police Rajinder Singh, who visited the sport and found floor stained with blood, said: “At this stage, the incident looks like of loot. Assailants knew that Kala Singh used to live alone in his dera. They attacked and burnt him inside the room.” “We have some leads in the case and will nab the culprits shortly,” Singh told Daily Post. Further investigation was on in this regard.
