Chandigarh: Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday, directed Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot to display the combined, composite merit list of all the candidates who have given Pre Medical Entrance Test (PMET) for the admission of MBBS and BDS courses within three days after preparing fresh merit list. The court also asked to show that at what percentile the students stand so that transparency and openness in the system can be maintained.
Disposing of a bunch of petitions, court also directed the university to put composite result of both tests, showing the percentile of the students on website. However, court upheld the percentile adopted by the university keeping in view the changing circumstances. The court dismissed the petitions seeking re-examination of PMET. Justice G S Sandhawalia had reserves the judgment after hearing the various petitions on day to day basis.
The court declared four questions invalid asked the university to make necessary corrections by showing the relative percentile of all the candidates and revise the merit list. The court said that the first round of counselling be held on September 16 and 17 and the candidates be given adequate time to join by September 20. Regarding second stage of counselling the university shall adhere to the fixed schedule the court said.
Extension of Chandigarh airport: HC asks to hold meeting for land acquisition
Chandigarh: Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday asked UT Administration to hold a meeting with the Chandigarh International Airport Authorities and Punjab and discuss the matter of land to be acquired and needed for extension of the airport.Aaprt from this, court also directed Chandigarh International Airport Authorities to give the timeline about providing various basic facilities at Chandigarh International Airport by next date of hearing of the case.The court asked to discuss the land issue and themodalities to be chalked out to acquire the needed land for the extension of the airport runway extension.The bench said that a meeting in this regard be held before the next date of hearing. On Friday, the UT Administration said that it has identified 82 acres of land. During previous
hearing the Punjab has stated that it has also identified 64 acres of land for making available for the extension of airport.
Trial room of Bhagat Singh likely to be made part of Lahore HC
Chandigarh: The room, where trial of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru was held, is likely to be made part of Lahore High Court museum. This was disclosed by Lahore High Court Judge, Justice Muhammad Abwaarul Haq on Friday while addressing advocates of Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association.
He also said that a corner will be made for Punjab and Haryana High Court in Museum of Lahore High Court which is being constructed.
He along with two other judges of Lahore High Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi and Justice Muhammad Farrukh Irfan Khan were here to invite High Court Judges and members of Bar Association for 150th year celebrations of the Lahore High Court. Justice Haq said that he use to hold the court in the room where the British government had held the trial of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. He said that he was making efforts that this room becomes part of Lahore High Court Museum.
